October 10, 2011 (Powerhomebiz.com) Here at Sports Mart, we’re all about helping you burn the calories this autumn. Alongside our article on picking the right trainers from our Adidas online store, we thought you would appreciate the news that from now on, major high street food outlets and restaurants will be helping you eat healthy as well.
According to the Health Secretary Andrew Lansley, one in six meals is eaten outside the home. Subsequently the Ministry of Health has begun a scheme to have 5000 of the major food outlets helping the customer choose healthily. They already have companies such as MacDonald’s, KFC, Pizza Hut, Prêt a Manger and JD Weatherspoons partaking; now it’s just a question of bringing it mainstream.
Although MacDonald’s has somewhat of a dodgy reputation for healthy food, the news that they are adding the calorie information to their menus is a welcome change to the industry. In New York this scheme has been in place for a few years and the trail has found that of the 15% of people opting to use the calorie information, they chose to have meals accumulating to a drop of 106 calories: The equivalent of a 20 minute workout.
Given this new information, it is useful to know that for women, the recommended daily calorie intake is a thankless 1940, whilst for men its 2550. Bearing in mind that a 20 minute work out on a treadmill will only burn a maximum of 150 calories, watching what you eat is half the battle with losing weight. The other half is being prepared for your new lifestyle. Sports Mart for instance, offer a wide range of strong footwear such as Adidas Vespa, Nike TN and K-Swiss trainers to help you achieve your goals.
Did you also know, that to lose 1lb a week you need to have a negative calorie balance of 500 a day; and to lose 2lb a week, you need a negative balance of 1000 a day. So if we compare this to the figures of a regular Big Mac meal deal: Burger, 495 Calories ; Medium French Fries, 340 Calories; Medium Coke, 170 Calories. (or if your like me: Strawberry Milkshake, 390 Calories!) we can see that over half of a womans daily intake is consumed in one meal and unless she doesn’t eat again, it will be hard to have a negative calorie balance at all.
Scientists are also worried that in the bid to lower calorie content, competing companies could pump their foods with starch and sugar, thereby lowering the nutritional value of their product. This will require dieters to become extra diligent in their eating habits. Either way, the key to losing weight is fitness, combined with dieting. At Sports Mart, we have a wide range of Adidas, Nike TN and K-Swiss trainers and sporting clothing to help you pound that pavement until a Big Mac, instead of a punishment, becomes a treat again.
