January 15, 2013 (Powerhomebiz.com) ABI, a leading global business-to-business marketing public relations agency, was recently honored with the coveted “Best Green Initiative” award at the PR Daily Awards luncheon, held in Washington, D.C. and organized by Ragan’s PR Daily.
ABI was recognized for its pivotal role in the development of the 2011 Sustainability Report for Crown Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CCK), a leading supplier of innovative metal packaging technology to consumer products companies worldwide. With sustainability continuing to grow in importance in the packaging industry, it was critical for Crown to proactively communicate its global sustainability record and ongoing dedication to sustainable business practices to internal and external stakeholders. The report also clearly conveys metal packaging’s powerful sustainability story by highlighting the material’s many benefits.
Structured based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 Guidelines, the report was the first of its kind for Crown and successfully illustrated how sustainability has been a fundamental part of its business model historically and will be into the future. The report also highlighted Crown’s commitment to investing in the safety and well-being of its workforce and the communities the company does business in.
“While our communications efforts for Crown have consistently talked about the sustainability of metal packaging, this report presented the first opportunity to tell a comprehensive story on the company’s behalf,” said Nicole Zampino, Director of Client Services for ABI, who oversaw the development of the report. “We made a conscious decision to tell that story in a visually compelling way and to shine a spotlight not just on the benefits of the material Crown uses, but how the company’s commitment to innovation, efficiency and safety drives the way it does business each and every day.”
The initiative also included a series of tools to help Crown communicate the report’s launch to customers, prospects and other stakeholders. As part of this effort, a special section of Crown’s website was created to allow visitors to register to download the full report ( www.crowncork.com/sustainability). The website was designed to offer visual continuity with the report itself and be flexible enough to accommodate future updates.
“It’s always deeply gratifying to be recognized for the caliber of the work we do on behalf of our clients,” said Alan Isacson, CEO of ABI. “We want to extend our thanks to the judges, as well as to Crown for being a valued agency partner.”
Other award finalists in the category included American Airlines, The Coca-Cola Company, HanesBrands Inc., Virgin Atlantic Airways and the Orange County Transportation Authority.
ABI’s work for Crown also earned an honorable mention in the “Best Corporate Social Responsibility” category. Other honorable mention recipients in that category included Diageo, Coca-Cola Turkey, Hilton Worldwide and the Shepard Center.
