February 6, 2013 (Powerhomebiz.com) Ecommerce is all about selling products and services. It should be simple, a customer wants to buy and you want to sell. Unfortunately this is not always the case, cluttered, over complicated designs end up putting customer off, complicating what should be a simple task.
This is where UX or User Experience comes in. In this article we look at how UX can be used to create a simple functional ecommerce web design and what issue to avoid.
Here at Web Design Galway, when we meet a client, we listen to what they want, but we also know what the customer expects. UX is about the visual design of the ecommerce web design, the emotion the customer feels using the site and the appeal of the user interface. When designing the eCommerce site, it is important to remember what the client wants from the site but also what the customer expects. Good ecommerce design is finding the right balance for both customer and client.
The process can be divided into three areas, they are:
Attracting Visitors:
Most people will use Google when they are looking for something. This is why it is very important to build a website that is easy for Google to understand. This can be done with on-site and off-site SEO. A web design company will work with the client to identify the keyword and phrases to see what they feel a customer will search for. Then using these keywords, the site is optimised so it gets the best possible position. If the ranking for the website is poor, then customer will not find the site.
Converting the Visitor to a Customer:
People visiting the site are there for a reason. They want to buy, if they find what they want, can read and see that the product is right and the price is right, and then they will buy. Providing good quality images where the customer can zoom in and see the details. Listing good, relevant, detailed information will inform the customer and give them confidence that this is what they need. In UX, you want the customer to believe this is exactly what they want and this is the place to buy it. You want the customer to build trust and confidence. By telling the customer what they need to know will build confidence, but you also need to build trust. Having clear contact details is very important. The customer must feel it is easy to contact you in the future, that there is somewhere to go, if there is an issue.
Keeping your Customers:
Now that visitors have found your website, it is important to keep them coming back. By delivering on your promise is the first step. If a purchased product is supposed to arrive in two days, then you must make sure it does. If you fail to delivery on the promise, then the trust is gone and sending newsletters and gift vouchers will make little difference. UX design is about customer emotions, so establishing and building on trust is crucial for continuing success. Once the trust is established, then the customer will return. Providing a simple, easy to use interface for the customer to use on their return is the next step in a good UX ecommerce web design. A simple login process that allows the customer to get to the checkout, quickly and fuzz-free is key for continuing success.
