Cupcakes For Kids – More Caloriecious!

November 27, 2011 (Powerhomebiz.com) A stimulating new study suggests cupcake tastes good, but its a bad choice for children’s classroom parties. It revealed that young children can get a massive 20 percent or more of their daily calorie requirement from low nutritious and energy-dense foods like Cookie, Cupcake and Brownie.

Dr. Marion Nestle, an author of study, professor of nutrition, food studies and public health at New York University, brought this shocking fact. She asked in an email surprisingly to CBS News, ” 20 percent of daily calories?”. ”Come on. That is really too much. How about small treats so the kids will have a decent lunch?”

Researchers at Long Island University, for the study calculated 4 to 6 year old child’s calorie intake during 4 classroom celebrations at an elementary school in a urban community with low-income. The researchers, a professor of nutrition at the university and a registered dietitian- found that an average calorie intake ranged from 259 to 455 calories.

calories The following study was published over the web in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior. According to WebMD, reasonably active boys and girls between the ages 4 and 8 need 1,400 to 1,600 calories per day.

There is no ambiguity in believing that excess calories are a big problem for kids. Over the last 30 years, the rate of childhood obesity has been recorded more than triple.

Dr. Nestle said, ”A birthday party may seem begin with a giant cupcake, but it can contribute way more calories than required or needed,”. She added schools should set limits on fare of classroom party, and that parents must be grateful if schools did not expect them to contribute so much for stuff like calorie full cupcakes and cookies.

Well, if cupcakes are out, then what should teachers serve? ”Fresh fruits may be a reasonable option in addition to calorie free or nutritious cupcakes on the party food table,” the authors concluded.

The surprising remarks were. Fruits instead of cakes? What would kids say? What do you think it will make difference? Should teachers improve upon classroom parties? Or should the ”food police” leave cupcakes for the kids? The best option can be bake your own nutritious low calorie cakes!
