March 20, 2013 (Powerhomebiz.com) UK search engine marketing agency SEO Consult® has reacted to the news that leading floral brand Interflora has returned to near the top of Google’s rankings following an 11 day spell of penalisation.
Interflora began to reappear in results pages on the search engine when searching for related terms, including its own brand name. This comes after it was reported in The Independent in early March 2013 that Google had taken action against Interflora after finding the floral website to have incorporated ‘black hat SEO’ techniques into their campaign.
The reason behind these issues is reported to be advertorials on regional and national newspapers that contain the wrong type of links to the Interflora website. Links that have been bought should not pass PageRank (Google’s algorithm that determines ranking) but, crucially, these links to Interflora had done so. Google responded to this by penalising Interflora for 11 days, essentially banishing the Interflora brand from organic search results, a marketing disaster for the business given that Mothers Day was approaching at the time.
